Dr Andres Cárdenas

Dr Cárdenas trained at Boston University Medical Center, Hospital Clinic, Barcelona and Harvard Medical School. He is now senior specialist gastroenterologist at the Institute of Digestive Diseases and Metabolism at the University of Barcelona. Prior to this Dr Cárdenas was Attending Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC).

The main areas of Dr Cardenas’ research include complications of cirrhosis, advanced endoscopic procedures in patients with cirrhosis and portal hypertension, and endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP) in liver transplant recipients. With extensive clinical trials experience, Dr Cárdenas has been a consultant for both pharmaceutical and device companies.

Dr Cárdenas is a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association, and a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, the European Association for the Study of the Liver, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and Massachusetts Medical Society. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed journal publications and multiple textbooks.
